1. Does objectivity still exist in the media's coverage of politics? Of the major news outlets (CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC, NPR, NBC, etc.), which are the most objective and which seem to have the most bias?
To be totally honest I do not watch any news. My parents were never into watching the news and my
husband and I dont either. The only thing I know about is that there are specific channels that are more conservative and some more liberal but I couldnt tell you which one.
2. How does talk radio (Rush Limbaugh, Keith Olbermann, etc.) affect your view of politics? Why?
ok so I dont listen to talk radio either. I have never kept up with politics so I never listened to any talk radio about politics.
3. Is media objectivity important? Why or why not?
I think it is. I think they tell you pretty much all that they want you to know. If you listen to someone who likes a conservative they are going to talk them up and the same goes for liberals. I wish people would just tell you the actual news and not what their opinion is.
I had a really hard time with this blog because I do not watch or listen to politcs.

I, like you, am not an avid news watcher or listener. I have a ton of things going on day to day and hardly any time to keep up with things. However, I keep a constant line open to my father and check websites once or twice a week in order to keep up with things. I think it is important for you to at least understand the views and beliefs of the political spectrum and to not exactly decide which party you support, but to at least become concrete in your views. Another point I can make on your blog is to understand the difference between “objectivity” and “bias”. Not many people understand the difference. They actually mean two completely different things. Objectivity pertains to an unbiased view. There are also so many more important views than just conservative or liberal.
ReplyDeleteI also had a hard time with this blog. I hate the news and talk radio. I believe that the news only reports the bad things and none of the good so I choose not to watch it. I'm sure, like me, if there is an issue that you want or need to know about you look it up. Its not a bad thing it just means we stay connected in different ways then the people who watch the news and listen to talk radio.
ReplyDeleteI would encourage you to listen to talk radio 98.7 news talk has a lot of great shows I don't know why I am 34 but when I was about 24 I started listening to talk radio and I listen everyday not always the same shows but 98.7 has a good morning talk show with Hallerin Hilton Hill they talk about a lot of local issues as well as what ever the issues are in the mainstream media Phil Williams has a fun show that comes on at three I do listen to Rush and Geraldo but really it seems that the bigger shows seem to be a little more repetitive. Neil Boortz was really good but his show ended in January listen you will get into it. I listen while I make the kids lunch or while I do my homework I don't care for the television so it is a nice way to break the silence if I am alone and have things to talk to my wife about.
ReplyDeleteGreat Comments !!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the news only report bad thing, that seems to sell better than good stories. If I am not mistaking WATE in Knoville tried for a while to end their broadcast on a "good story" note.
I understand not watching or listening to these programs. However as being employeed by the federal and state governments I pay close attention to what is going. Espiecially right now with the government shutdown going on. I have been listeing to the arguement and polictical blameing to each party. Some of it is actually pretty interesting.
The only politics I see or listen to is on the half hour I watch news at night after I finish the dishes. Right now with all that is going on, listening to the news just makes me mad and brings on a hot flash, ha ha. I don't get a paper so I don't read about politics except what is in my book, and when at home I usually don't have the radio on, so I agree with Megan.
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, I don't watch much news nor listen to the news on the radio.
ReplyDeleteI've never been big into politics nor do I like to talk about them. I do thing it is important to keep up with certain topics. Luckily, I have my husband to explain things to me because like I said I'm not into politics. However, what is going on with the government now is affecting everyone, including my husband and I. He is in the Navy Reserve and because of the shutdown his drill has been cancelled. Since he is not able to go to drill, that is a paycheck and money we need that we will not get.
